The Bureau of Religious Oversight (BRO) is an independent extra-governmental organization that monitors and mediates religious affairs throughout Caldora. Operating outside any government or religious authority, the BRO investigates dangerous sects, protects civilians from religious conflicts, and maintains peace between Caldora's diverse faiths.

Structure and Operations

The Bureau operates from its Field Headquarters under Director Lobster Homarus. The facility includes a secure interrogation room, strategic meeting space, the Director's office, and a professional waiting area.

Operational Doctrine

The BRO follows a three-tier escalation protocol:

Prevention: Mediates rising tensions between religious groups or between faiths and governments before conflicts emerge.

Protection: Safeguards non-religious citizens, unwilling participants, and potential casualties when conflict becomes unavoidable.

Preservation: Secures the Bureau's continuity and culturally significant materials (religious texts, historical documents, critical technology, vital personnel) during widespread destruction.

Authority and Independence

While the BRO frequently collaborates with local governments for enforcement, it maintains complete autonomy and declares it's authority to act independently when necessary. Despite its commitment to neutrality, the Bureau has authorized itself to eliminate hostile religious factions if required to prevent wider conflict, protect innocents, or ensure organizational survival. This authority has not been challenged by any developed nation.
