Lucius Ehrveil

#L230

Overview

Lucius Ehrveil was the second leader of the Ehrveillian Dynasty and the dominant political figure of Landfall-230 - The Great Dominion. As Chancellor of Lilarreich he carried the mantle from the dynasty's founder, Thomas Ehrveil, and presided over the era now remembered as the nation's golden age. He earned the title The Architect for the breadth of institutions he established, both public and clandestine.

Public Career

Chancellor of Lilarreich

Lucius inherited the chancellorship following Thomas Ehrveil's passing. Under his leadership, Lilarreich established itself as the dominant diplomatic and technological force in Caldora, with Terranova as its administrative and cultural capital. He oversaw the integration of Fulcrum into Lilarreich alongside Robert Alvaldi, adding that territory's industrial and military strength to the nation's existing political base. He also championed the monorail project, the era's most visible infrastructure achievement and a symbol of the unity Lilarreich claimed to represent.

The Guild

Lucius founded The Guild as the economic backbone of Lilarreich, with authority over trade routes, industrial production, and banking. The Guild operated as a quasi-sovereign economic entity across Caldora and was the institution most directly responsible for the prosperity of the golden age. Its trade networks reached every faction of the Dominion, including those that publicly opposed Lilarreich.

DaemonWare Labs

He served as head of DaemonWare Labs, the research organization responsible for many of the Dominion's technological advances. DaemonWare contributed to the monorail's construction and pushed the boundaries of weaponry, computing, and artificial intelligence. The Labs' work was central to the era's reputation for innovation and, in time, to its destruction.

Chateau Fleur de Bleu

Lucius established Chateau Fleur de Bleu in Cornflower as both a vineyard estate and a neutral diplomatic venue. The Chateau hosted gatherings between rival factions and became one of the few locations in the Dominion where leaders of opposing powers could meet without provocation. It also produced wine of considerable cultural importance.

The Chancellor's Banquet

He hosted The Chancellor's Banquet, the era's most prominent diplomatic gathering. Officially the banquet was a goodwill event aimed at easing tensions with Crazy Town and other rival factions. In practice it exposed grievances that had been building between the Dominion's leading powers and is the most-documented social event of the late golden age.

The XreaTech Trial

During XreaTech vs. Walrus Luditus, Lucius personally served as defense counsel for Walrus Luditus against Zee Bane of XreaTech. His arguments centered on the retroactive application of XreaTech's commercial code and the absence of evidence for the theft and manslaughter charges. The defense prevailed. The verdict was followed by Luditus's detonation of explosives in the courthouse, an outcome neither the court nor the defense had anticipated.

Shadow Career

Lucius also founded Citadel Corporation, a clandestine organization whose existence was unknown to the public for the duration of his career. Citadel operated through "Fronts" or departments that conducted research and industrial work under cover of ordinary corporate activity. DaemonWare Labs was absorbed into Citadel as one such department, formally subordinated to the secret organization while continuing to present as an independent research body.

Citadel's most consequential project was the Divinets, artificial intelligences of godlike scale developed for Lilarreich. When their existence became known, every major faction of the Dominion rushed to develop its own. The resulting arms race produced competing Divinets across XreaTech, Crazy Town, LobsterCo, and others, and the War of the Divinets that followed brought the Great Dominion to ruin.

Legacy

Lucius's reputation is split between the institutions he built openly and the one he built in secret. The Guild, DaemonWare, the Chateau, and the monorail are the public face of his career and the basis for the title The Architect. Citadel and the Divinets are the basis for the collapse of the era he had presided over. The L530 Ehrengard Empire was founded in his memory by Kieran Ehrveil, who treated Lucius as a model for the new dynasty even where the rest of his lineage was uncertain.
